There’s a new movie out about minor league baseball. It’s called “Sugar” and it’s getting rave reviews.
Don’t expect your standard Disney fare. The movie follows the career of a Dominican pitcher from the baseball academies in his home country to spring training in Arizona to the minor league fields of Iowa. Pay particular attention for the now laughable cameo of disgraced scout Jose Rijo.
Although it’s a small film, “Sugar” has been getting good reviews. It has been called “unmissable” by one critic and a “diamond in the rough” by the New York Times. The movie got a very respectable 89% on the Rotten Tomatoes site.
